Best Performance
There’s no doubting that England’s last few major tournaments will have instilled belief into their fans that they could be close to lifting their first title since 1966. Four years ago, England were minutes from reaching the World Cup final, but were pegged back by Croatia before being knocked out in extra time. Last year, England managed to reach the final of the European Championships for the first time in their history, only to lose out on penalties to Italy. Could this be the time they go one further? They experienced few issues in qualification, finishing 6 points above Poland in second place, and they will also be pleased at the group they have been drawn into and should be confident of topping it. But even with their fantastic run last year, most of their games were at home, where they have historically always been strong, but will Qatar bring the same disappointment they have been experiencing for over 50 years?
Player to Watch
29 year old Kane is the first name on the team sheet for England, and the three time English Premier League Golden Boot winner, who also won the Golden Boot at the World Cup 4 years ago, will be desperate to lead his nation to glory. He is only a few goals shy of becoming the most decorated goalscorer in England’s history, and was also joint top goalscorer in the entire European qualification with 12 goals.
