Best Performance
Denmark topped Group F during qualifying by winning their first 9 games and losing just their last one after qualification was secured, and there is a feel good factor within the squad, particularly after reaching the semi-finals of the European Championships last year and being knocked out by hosts England thanks to a contentious extra time penalty kick. Denmark have progressed out of the Group Stages in all but one of their five appearances at the World Cup, and four years ago, were knocked out by finalists Croatia on penalties at the Round of 16 stage. Few will forget the harrowing scenes during last year’s Euros when Christian Eriksen collapsed in his opening game, but the squad bounced back with some dazzling appearances for the rest of the tournament that saw them finish in 4th spot.
Player to Watch
At the age of 22, this will be a huge tournament for Olsen, who moved to Brugge from Bologna earlier this year. He took the Norwegian Tippeligaen by storm when he scored 22 goals in 36 matches before turning 20, and even for his country, he has scored 7 goals in 21 appearances so far. He was joint top scorer in qualifying with 5 goals scored, and also netted in the Nations League earlier this year.
